Turbo still at HDM

Tuesday, 25 January 2005 12:00 by Jeanne
My Turbulent Miss is feeling better but she had to stay at HDM another night. The vet just wanted to make sure we weren't going to have another choke. Also, she is getting intravenous antibiotics and fluids. The good people there said they would work with us on the cost... I really felt that if this vet said, "I wish we could just keep her another day," that we needed to allow it.

I'm told that her spirits are up; she even tried to escape today. Wheweee, if she didn't have those knees, she would be a handful!

So, I will go get our girl tomorrow after work... probably about 5 o'clock.

Taba is taking the separation very well... Of course, she is sedated so that helps. Jamra is in Turbo's stall until Turbo comes home. It was so funny this evening... instead of going to her own stall, Jamra sauntered right down the barn isle and stood in front of Turbo's stall!

My Turbulent Miss at the hospital

Monday, 24 January 2005 20:28 by Jeanne
Well, Miss is staying overnight at the hospital. They were able to clear the choke but they wanted to give her some IV fluids and antibiotics... Hopefully she will come home tomorrow.

The vet saw some lung disease on the ultra sound and her some of her blood work was slightly abnormal... Not sure what that all means yet...

I put Jamra in Miss' stall to keep Taba company...

My Turbulent Miss is ill

Monday, 24 January 2005 10:43 by Jeanne
Turbo is ill. It appears to be choke but Doc can't dislodge the problem. He has given her some medicine (I think he said it was dhl) to loosen the clog. He will be back at noon to recheck...

If she isn't any better, he suggests we head to the hospital.

If I take Turbo anywhere I will have to sedate Taba...

The ladies respond

Friday, 14 January 2005 12:00 by Jeanne
Oh, I am so very pleased with the way the mares are responding... they come right to the barn, now, and stand in front of their doors. The biggest attitude change has come over My Turbulent Miss. She has gone from a frightened shell of a horse to a regular comic. There is a new spark in her eyes, too.

Taba has come around, too. I think she likes being inside at night. She has some issues about where she doesn't like to be touched and, in fact, has refused to let me groom her shoulder at times but I think she is starting to like me...

Iza is being very cooperative, too. She hates being dirty, so if, by chance, she gets muddy she rushes over to show me, "OOOHHH! ICK! DO SOMETHING!"

I can relate to the muddy fields... I wish I could keep the ladies up more, there is NO WAY I can get them totally clean without major bathing.

Funny thing, I told you how Iza feels about cats, right? Well, it seems her best friend, Jamra, is a cat person. Jamra almost always has a cat in her stall.

Beginning 2005 with the ladies

Taba is becoming affectionate. She seeks me out... even when it isn't meal time. I am getting all sorts of love from her. Oh, she still has her royal moments... she absolutely HATES having her left shoulder touched... in any way, shape or form... She WILL bite. The same with her left hind. Makes me wonder if she was injured and that's why she stopped racing after three races.

My Turbulent Miss is also showing affection but is VERY MISCHIEVIOUS! She likes to put hay on my head. If I am not paying attention to what she is doing while I am in her stall she oh, so casually gets a mouthful, sweeps over my head, dropping it as she goes. The twinkle in her eye afterwards tells me she KNOWS what she is doing.

Jamra and I have come to an understanding. She really likes Cassidy and makes it clear that Cass is who should be taking care of her. BUT since Cass has been injured and not going to the barn Jamra has had to settle for me. She is BEGINNING to like me but I think we have a way to go.

Iza Valentine is AWESOME. Oh, she clearly likes men more than women but she is very obedient and easy to work around. Iza also likes to stay clean.

Exactly So can carry up to 50lbs of mud in her coat and seems to enjoy doing so. I suspect she has Cushing's as her coat is extremely thick. MAYBE she will shed out now that she has proper nutrition and grooming. If not, we will have to shave her down.

Anyway, she likes REAL GOOEY, WET mud the best. On one of our warmer days I tried bathing her... almost an hour and I still did not get her clean!!!!
